Seemed perfectly fine at the time.Torchlight is an interesting franchise, going from a well received single player experience to the “Diablo killer” with Torchlight 2 back in 2012, taking advantage of Diablo 3’s extremely messy launch and lackluster experience at the asking AAA price. In the beta I used Flame Hammer and Ember Hammer as my only actives. Lastnight I found myself effectively respawn-zerging a miniboss, and I just couldn't figure out what I could have done differently with my current build. I'm finding mid-Act 3 on my 2H Engi to be surprisingly punishing. Not to drastically change my build, but just to get a few points back that I invested 30-odd levels ago, and ended up not using.

I'm pretty tempted to give the respec potion ago. I guess if you pump enough points into passives they become strong enough to keep you alive. I just have a hard time understanding how it's practical. But I've seen enough screenshots of Engineers in their late 60's and up with nothing but Flame Hammer and maybe one other active, that I believe it's actually viable. What do you have to gain from artificially limiting yourself to just Flame Hammer? I've heard that Forcefield more than doubles your effective health. Just think about how much tactical flexibility you could gain with even just one point in Onslaught, Storm Burst, and Blast Cannon.

The Engineer has skills for all of these roles, but you can't get it all from just one ability. As a Berserker that means using a lot of Shadow Burst, Wolfstrike, and Northern Rage on hordes and Storm Hatchet into melee critfests for bosses. What you really need is mid-range AoE and ways of attacking while moving in order to thin the herd in a safe, reliable way, while also being capable of solid single-target damage when needed.

I've gotten cocky and gotten myself gibbed before completing a second swing on more than one occasion. I'm often too afraid to swing my hammer because 1.53 seconds is way too long to not be able to withdraw. To be honest, I have to seriously question the validity of that whole build concept.Īs a Berserker in Act 2 on Veteran, I've come to the conclusion that standing still and swinging a melee weapon in the middle of a full group of enemies is something that simply isn't done. I wish I could drop 15 points into the healbot like instantly. I feel like maybe it's the lack of Bulwark too. Like my damage is pretty sweet at the moment but I swear I've noticed the slightly lower Vitality I'm working with as an immediate terrifying drop in health at many points. I'm having a tough time with survivability as a 2h Engineer focusing on passives/one active.
